Distribution of modulated waves in turbulent atmosphere - Dispersion of phase fluctuations of a modulating oscillation
Abstract
The paper describes an analysis of phase fluctuations transmitted by optical communication lines by means of auxiliary amplitude modulation. A mathematical treatment is provided to characterize errors in the received signal which are caused by random distortion of waves in a randomly inhomogeneous medium, such as turbulent atmosphere. An expression is presented for the complex amplitude of the field of the modulated light wave after passage through a turbulent layer, and correlation functions of a complex phase are used to describe the dispersion of fluctuation of modulating oscillations.
