On the energy of a cosmological field of gravitational radiation
Abstract
Approximate solutions of Einstein's equations are discussed which may be interpreted as highfrequency gravitational radiation. A set of equations describing the passage of highfrequency gravitational radiation in a matterfilled spacetime is constructed, and solutions are sought which correspond to gravitational radiation in a RobertsonWalker universe. It is shown that the energy of an isotropic gravitationalradiation field in such a model universe may be represented by a perfectfluid energy tensor.
