Means of decreasing strain-gage errors under conditions of radiation heating
Abstract
In the experiments described, representative heat-resistant strain gages (types KhTT, PKA, 1-VO) were tested on titanium and aluminum alloy sheet heated by IR radiation to obtain quantitative estimates of strain measurement errors. It was found that the influence of radiation heating on the strain gage characteristics can be controlled by shielding the strain gages with a metallic foil. It proved possible to reduce by an order of magnitude the error induced by a thermal gradient.
