Dirac and Dirac-Pauli equations in the Foldy-Wouthuysen representation
Abstract
The Foldy-Wouthuysen representation of the Dirac equation corresponding to the case of general electromagnetic fields is reordered such that it completes a symmetry of form with the free-particle and static-magnetic-field cases. The procedure explicitly separates the spin-orbit and Thomas precessional energies while partially resumming the transformed Hamiltonian into a form similar to that of the exactly transformed Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian.
