Wide channel MOSFET distributed amplifier on integrated circuits
Abstract
A coupled pair of MOSFETs were utilized as a distributed amplifier operated in a common gate mode and the response was analyzed theoretically. The distributed amplifier was modeled as two RC transmission lines coupled by a controlled current source distributed along and between the two lines. The analysis began with the coupling by a lumped source and was extended to the distributed coupling by increasing the number of the lumped sources. The open circuit voltage transfer functions along with the input and the output impedance were given for four special cases identified by either short or open circuiting each line, and then modified into various forms to obtain the magnitude and phase response. The device had a unique phase characteristic such that the phase shift increases monotonically without reaching any limit.
