Dye laser with very high frequency stability - Application to very-high-resolution spectroscopy of iodine at 0.59 micron
Abstract
A feedback scheme has been developed for improving the performance of a CW dye laser. The long-term frequency stability of the laser has been improved by calibrating it with an iodine-stabilized He-Ne laser. This dye laser can be used for very-high-resolution spectroscopy, enabling the study of transitions of long lifetime. The spectroscopic qualities of this laser have been tested by applying it to the study of the hyperfine structure of two lines of iodine near 5870 A. The pressure broadening of these lines was measured and their saturation intensity was determined.
