Heat transfer correlations for the nucleate, convective and dispersed regions of horizontal in-tube evaporation
A model of improved accuracy is provided for predicting local heat transfer coefficients for horizontal in-tube. It is established that there are three regions which must be modeled: (1) nucleate region occurs generally at lower vapor mass qualities with a stratified flow pattern where heat flux is the dominant parameter, (2) convective region occurs at higher qualities typified by annular flow where the mass flow rate and the quality are the dominant parameters, and (3) dispersed or mist region occurs where liquid drops are entrained in the vapor and heat flux, mass flow rate and quality are all significant parameters. Correlating equations for the nucleate and convective regions are presented in graphical form. The heat transfer correlation for the dispersed region is presented as several easily computed equations.
