Controlled multiline CO2 oscillator
Abstract
A method for maximizing the number of rotational lines with extractable energy upwards of 50% is attemped. The gain/loss ratio over several rotational lines is altered such that each lasing rotational line is equally likely to oscillate (instead of the line with highest gain/loss ratio competitively oscillating at the expense of the other lines). A wavelength-dependent loss element was employed to enhance the loss factor of the P(20) transition; multiple line selection with a flat Ge out-coupling mirror is described. Mechanical and temperature stabilization of the loss element presents little difficulty.
