Investigation of high spin states in 205Bi
Abstract
High spin states in 205Bi were investigated by observing γ-rays and conversion electrons in the compound nucleus reactions 203,205Tl( α, xn) 205Bi. Yrast states up to I π = {17}/{2}+ were identified. Furthermore, a sequence of levels was observed with a highest spin of possibly {35}/{2}. An isomer was found with T {17}/{2} = 2.54(6) ns and the possibility of the existence of two isomeric states with half-lives in the range of 100 ns-10 μs is discussed. An attempt is made to interpret the data within the shell model by coupling an h{9}/{2} proton to the 204Pb core.
