Large aspect ratio expansion of toroidal magnetofluid equilibria with anisotropic pressure
Abstract
Analytic solutions are derived for toroidal axisymmetric plasma equilibria including the effect of pressure anisotropy in the asymptotic limit of large aspect ratio. The method consists in first expanding with respect to beta, then carrying out an independent expansion with respect to the inverse aspect ratio. The displacements of the magnetic surfaces, current surfaces, surfaces of constant parallel pressure, and surfaces of constant perpendicular pressure from each other and from the common cylindrical asymptotic limit are calculated and plotted. The validity of the asymptotic expressions is checked against a set of numerical calculations.
