The binary X-ray pulsar 3U 1538-52.
Abstract
Ariel 5 SSI and Experiment C observations of 3U 1538-52 are presented which confirm the binary nature of this source and resolve its positional uncertainty. Combining Ariel 5 data with that from OSO-8 leads to improve estimates of the orbital parameters which are discussed in terms of the implications for the mass and radius of the as yet unidentified companion star.
