High-speed photometry of symbiotic stars and recurrent novae.
Abstract
High time resolution photometry of 12 southern symbiotic stars shows that there is no flickering activity, in contrast with the recurrent novae where the flickering amplitude may reach several tenths of a magnitude. If a binary star model is used to explain the properties of these stars then the constancy of the symbiotic stars is a consequence of the mass transfer rate being lower than for the recurrent novae.
