Copernicus and Ariel V observations of Hercules X-1.
Abstract
Observations of the binary X-ray source Her X-1 by Copernicus and Ariel V instruments are reported and analyzed. The long-period (about 35 days) modulation of the 1.24-sec and 1.7-day eclipse periods, and the on-state and off-state of the source, are discussed. Estimates derived from Doppler shift of the zero phase of the binary orbit are given, along with a new value for the 1.24-sec pulsation period.
