Wave propagation between earth and ionosphere as boundary value problem and multilayer problem
Abstract
The propagation of a VLF signal between the earth and the ionosphere is studied by a method in which the threelayer problem is reduced to a boundary problem. This is accomplished by a conductivity approximation, which replaces the electric properties of the anisotropic ionosphere with a conductivity surface tensor along the airionosphere boundary. This method is shown to yield results similar to those obtained by the threelayerproblem approach.
