Spaceborne VHF transponder
Abstract
A description is presented of a VHF transponder designed to provide a back-up link for telecommand, telemetry and range and rate measurements for such satellites as those of the OTS and the Marots projects. The transponder, which provides access to the satellite during station acquisition, is connected to a turnstile antenna. Specifications for the high-sensitivity receiver, the medium-power transmitter, the diplexer and mode selection logic are reported. The VHF transponder has passed ESA qualification testing and also meets the Goddard Space Center standards.
