Research and development of millimeter-wave measuring equipment
Abstract
Millimeter-wave measuring equipment for the W-40G system installation and maintenance purposes has been developed. This paper gives a brief description of the basic design philosophies, outline, characteristic features and future capabilities, as well as of how this equipment has been developed. A hardware-oriented approach was used and efforts have been directed mainly to achieving millimeter-wave solid-state circuit broad-banding techniques. Novel and unique techniques on IMPATT oscillators, detectors, frequency converters and isolators have been achieved. Although the equipment has been built primarily for guided millimeter-wave transmission systems, it can readily be applied to other transmission system, and instrumentation and measurement fields.
