Effect of radial expansion of the laser heating of a magnetically confined plasma
Abstract
The laser heating behavior of a plasma column confined by a solenoid magnetic field is analyzed. A quasistatic model is used to account for plasma radial expansion. The ion heating process is studied explicitly. Simple analytic expressions are obtained to describe electron and ion temperatures as well as the behavior of axial heating or ''bleaching''-wave propagation.
