A quantum maser in the 8-mm range based on rutile
Abstract
A description of a resonant quantum paramagnetic maser in the 8-mm range having a chromium ion impurity is presented. It is found that at a temperature of 4.2 K, a transmission band of approximately 15 MHz with a gain of 15-18 decibels is achieved. The effects of the high dielectric constant are reduced because of the separation of high-frequency fields in the volume where the interaction of the signal and the substance takes place. Results are presented for maser testing in continuous and frequency-modulated pumping modes. Prospects for improving maser characteristics by modulating the pumping frequency are noted.
