Heat transfer by free convection and radiation on a vertical flat surface
Abstract
Combined convective and radiative heat transfer, in an emitting gas, at a vertical wall is analyzed, treating the wall as a diffuse emitter of specified emissivity. The analysis is based on certain similar solutions obtained by Sparrow and Gregg (1956) for free convection on a vertical flat surface at a constant heat flux. The obtained system of equations is solved by a finite difference technique. Numerical data on the velocity and temperature distributions in the boundary layer are obtained for air, along with data on heat transfer and friction stress at the wall.
