Intensity scintillations of an EM wave in extremely strong turbulence
Abstract
Gaussian field statistics in extremely strong turbulence are assumed, in calculations of averaged intensity, intensity correlation, and scintillation index for a source of arbitrary shape. The source can be either coherent or incoherent, and these two cases are discussed separately; the scintillation index approaches unity in both cases. Reasons for a discrepancy with work by Rumsey (1975), who reported the scintillation index for an incoherent source as approaching zero, are probed.
