Experimental results concerning a turbulent boundary layer with suction and heating at the wall
Abstract
The effect of suction on a fully developed turbulent boundary layer of a heated flat plate is studied. Two experimental situations are considered - in one case, the starting points of heating and suction coincide with the beginning of suction, while in the other case, the starting point of heating coincides with the transition line to turbulence. Velocity profiles, mean temperatures, standard deviations of fluctuations, velocity-temperature correlations, Prandtl numbers and other parameters are presented. Some results are compared with results obtained by numerical prediction. The mechanism of action of suction on the internal and external zones of the boundary layer is analyzed. A relation between the temperature fluctuation variance and the kinetic energy of the turbulence is proposed.
