Computerized reflection and transmission coefficient magnitude measurements using an electronically tuned reflectometer
Abstract
A modified tuned reflectometer technique for scalar S-parameter measurements is presented. Electronic tuners (discrete-step variable-impedance transformer, or magnitude/phase changer) are used in place of manual tuners. Residual and source mismatch errors in VSWR measurements are 'drastically reduced'. Computer control of each tuning step and computer storing of tuning data for all frequencies enable precision swept-frequency measurements with printout or scope display; calibration and sliding load are also computer-controlled. The setup is automatic once retuned; connecting or disconnecting phaseable short load and standard known load call for retuning.
