A. R. Klemola, Lick Observatory, reports that he has discovered a supernova on plates taken by B. F. Jones with the 51-cm double astrograph on 1976 Dec. 21. The supernova, of blue magnitude 17, is located 27" east and 22" north of the nucleus of the elliptical galaxy NGC 3226 but is possibly associated with the neighboring Seyfert galaxy NGC 3227. The object was confirmed and at about the same brightness on an exposure by E. A. Harlan on 1977 Jan. 13.
