Means for increasing the quality of the interpretation of aerial photographs
Abstract
The article discusses means to increase the quality of the interpretation of aerial photographs. A mathematical expression is derived for the accuracy of identifying objects on topographical maps. Accuracy is taken as a factor of the size of object images, the parameters of the aerial photograph, and the skill of the technician. Based on this expression, it is suggested that photograph quality may be increased by: (1) increasing the photograph's resolving power, (2) enhancing image contrast, and (3) defining optimal conditions for aerial photography.
