Variational method for solving discrete problems in physical geodesy
Abstract
A mathematical foundation for a variational method in the theory of the figure of the earth is obtained without recourse to hypotheses concerning the structure of the gravitational field. A general algorithm is developed for solving discrete boundary value problems of physical geodesy in the case of compositionally heterogeneous initial measurements.
