Signal scintillation from extraterrestrial radio sources in the mid-latitude trough region
Abstract
The paper is concerned with whether the mid-latitude trough can deflect light to such an extent that multipath transmission occurs for signals passing through the ionosphere. If multipath does occur, then it is likely that the region of large-scale inhomogeneity lying north of the trough plays a role in the origin of high-latitude scintillation. The ionosphere north of the trough was assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic, and calculations show that in principle the trough might cause scintillation.
