Properties of graviinertial frames of reference
Abstract
The results obtained in a series of papers on graviinertial frames of reference are summarized. These papers have dealt with: (1) the introduction of graviinertial frames of reference in general relativity, (2) the determination of physically meaningful conserved quantities by variational methods and by using transformations between graviinertial frames of reference as symmetry transformations, and (3) the development of a generalrelativistic theory of elasticity by taking the unstrained equilibrium structure of a graviinertial frame of reference as the zerostrain level. Consideration is given to various techniques for coordinate transformation, the tetrad formalism of general relativity, the physical meaning of graviinertial frames of reference, and properties of such reference systems in Schwarzschild space, Kerr space, and space filled with pure gravitational radiation.
