The behavior of the characteristics in the case of magnetogasdynamic Prandtl-Meyer flows
Abstract
Planar, steady compression and expansion flows of an ideal plasma are considered, taking into account continuous flows which depend only on one coordinate, the deflection angle. The equation of characteristics for MHD parallel flows is numerically solved. The results are presented in the form of universally usable diagrams. The diagrams provide in-depth information concerning the properties of MHD parallel flows. These flows are affected by the magnetic field. The character of the flows is significantly different from that of flows in the area of pure gasdynamics. The provided diagrams make it possible to compare the linearized theory of magnetogasdynamic parallel flows considered by Lynn (1964) with the nonlinear theory. Such a comparison can be used as a basis for the study of the effects of the magnetic field intensity on the accuracy of the linearized theory.
