The technology of cylindrical domains
Abstract
The article is the first in a series on the technology of cylindrical magnetic domains. The physical underpinnings of the technology are addressed briefly, with presentation of data on carriers and their parameters. Static and dynamic properties of cylindrical domains, temperature dependences of major parameters, suitable materials, preparation of thin magnetic garnet layers by liquid phase epitaxy or chemical vapor deposition, and amorphous magnetic thin layers (compounds of lanthanide rare earths and transitional metals of the iron group) are dealt with. The use of vacuum sputtering and cathode sputtering in the fabrication of thin layers is discussed, and advances in photolithographic artwork (including use of X-rays and electron beams) are indicated.
