Network analysis of microwave oscillators using microstrip transmission lines
Abstract
A theoretical network approach based on S-parameter oscillator theory is proposed for designing Ku-band microstrip oscillators. A small-signal analysis of oscillation conditions is presented for FET circuits with source and gate tuning elements and drain-to-gate feedback. The utility of a computer-aided design approach for evaluating various oscillator circuit topologies is demonstrated. The approach is used successfully in the design and fabrication of microstrip oscillators on alumina substrates with oscillator center frequency between 11 and 18 GHz.
