A sophisticated test system to support modern weaponry
Abstract
The Operational Readiness Test System (ORTS) developed to support the AEGIS Weapon System Mk 7 is discussed. The system is intended to achieve the AEGIS weapon system specification of 100 per cent detection of faults through ship-board testing, and to carry out maintenance control and readiness status monitoring functions. The trade-offs made in the design of ORTS are discussed, and the impact of its implementation on weapon system availability, personnel requirements, maintenance training, documentation, and spares requirements is examined
