Utilization of an electrochemical probe for velocity measurement in a natural-convection plume - The case of a horizontal cylinder
Abstract
The paper describes a cylindrical system for the measurement of the velocity of a thermal plume; the system consists of a thermocouple for plume temperature measurements and an electrochemical probe for determining limit current-density. Information on temperature and limit current density is used to obtain the Sherwood and Schmidt numbers, from which, after calibration, the local Reynolds number and, hence, plume velocity are derived.
