Investigation of the stability of free diffusion-convection in a plane laminar wake
Abstract
The stability of a plane laminar wake above a gas source expelling a jet into the ambient medium (air) is analyzed, using a stability criterion derived from a solution of the Orr-Sommerfeld equations by a direct variational method. The solution is obtained with allowance for the transverse velocity components and for the nonuniformity of the concentrations. The analytical data are verified experimentally.
