A note on the existence of entropy in classical thermodynamics
Abstract
Two conditions for the existence of entropy for elastic systems are introduced. Both conditions are expressed in terms of some measures of the efficiency of cyclic processes. While the first condition employs the concept of crude efficiency introduced by Day (1972), the second condition is a formulation of efficiency in the usual physical sense.
