Turbulent boundary layer velocity profiles over a smooth surface
Abstract
Mean-velocity profiles were measured in two-dimensional incompressible boundary layers over a smooth wall for adverse, zero, and favorable pressure gradients. These data were used to obtain parameters such as roughness factor, profile factor, skin friction coefficient, momentum thickness, and shape factor by curve fitting the equation of Allan and Sharma (1974) for the mean velocity distribution. It was shown that the integral parameters momentum thickness and shape factor could be obtained by this method, but the local skin friction coefficient and the roughness effects are unreliably estimated by it.
