Improved performance of fusion lasers using the imaging properties of multiple spatial filters
Abstract
It is shown that multiple spatial filters minimize nonlinear self-focusing effects in high power laser systems. This is accomplished by employing both the normal filtering properties as well as the imaging properties of a spatial filter. Careful implementation of the optical relay scheme presented indicates that a substantial increase in focusable power of any fusion laser will result.
