A semiconductor amplifier for the directional radio system FM 300-1800-TV/11200
Abstract
Certain operational problems related to the occurrence of relay link sections of less than 35 km in the case of an employment of the new directional radio system FM 300-1800-TV/11200 can be very economically solved by using a transmitter amplifier consisting of semiconductor components in place of a travelling-wave tube transmitter amplifier. Such a solution was used in the case of relay link sections with a length of about 4 km. The use of Gunn elements and avalanche diodes as amplifying semiconductor elements in the 11 GHz frequency range is discussed. Attention is given to basic considerations regarding the implementation of the proposed design, the synchronized oscillator, details concerning the selected amplifier concept, the mechanical design, the employed broadband amplifier, and experimental results.
