Astrometric techniques with a PDS microdensitometer.
Abstract
The PDS microdensitometer is used for automatic two-dimensional scanning of seeing-degraded photographic images of astronomical objects. Various digital algorithms are used for image centering, including a general two-dimensional Gaussian fitting. The reliability of different algorithms is tested for both bright and faint stars on three common types of emulsion (103a, 127-02, and IIIa-J). It is also demonstrated that different bandpasses and telescopes may be astrometrically combined.
