Main-line OH emission in long-period variables and infrared stars. I. Discovery of new 1665/1667-MHz OH/IR sources.
Abstract
A search of 70 long-period and semiregular variables and 17 other infrared stars has resulted in the detection of microwave OH emission in five of these objects. Each of these sources was found to have OH emission at both main-line frequencies (1665 and 1667 MHz), but no comparable emission at 1612 MHz. The radio characteristics of the new sources presented here are similar to those of other main-line OH emitters. Upper detection limits to the main-line OH emission are given for all stars found not to be sources.
