The importance of systematic investigations of the flexure of the tubes of astrometrical instruments is discussed. A self-collimating method of measuring the flexure of a tube is proposed, which makes use of a back-reflector and a mirror attached to a cube, so that the normal of the mirror is parallel to the optical axis of the instrument. Relations describing the geometry of the test arrangement and for interpreting the results are given.
