Singular perturbations
Abstract
Characteristic features of certain classes of singular perturbation problems are pointed out, taking into account boundary value problems involving a differential equation in which the small parameter multiplies the derivative of highest order. In the considered cases a solution with the aid of a power series expansion is not possible. Problems of this structure appear in celestial mechanics, oscillation and wave theory, electromagnetic theory, chemical reactor theory, and viscous flow problems.
