Abstract
An exhaustive reference textbook on the physics and engineering design of light-emitting diodes (LED), with some information on fabrication and applications. LED photometry and luminous/spectral characteristics, human vision, LED injection mechanisms (and the ideal pn homojunction), light generation efficiency, LED (IR to visible) up-converters, fabrication technology (crystal growth, epitaxial deposition, CVD, junctions and diffusion, liquid phase epitaxy), and design of red/green GaP LED, direct energy gap LED, monolithic LED displays, and LED emitted colors are discussed, along with LED applications in: color indication, illumination of instruments and dials, alphanumeric displays, optronic isolators, photodetectors, and light-sensitive switching.
