Evaluation of industrial integrated circuit techniques for application to military electronics
Abstract
An investigation was made to determine available alternatives to MIL-SPEC integrated circuits and to determine whether industrial fabrication and test procedures could be used to evaluate components that could be used in the Fleet without degrading performance. It was concluded that commercial ICs should be capable of reliable operation in selected military systems under known or controlled conditions; that present TTL technology is more mature than CMOS technology; that introduction of industrially screened ICs into the Fleet can be accomplished through modification of existing specifications; that MIL-SPEC ICs are not readily available; and large-quantity procurement of industrially screened ICs results in increased reliability and lower costs.
