New devices for determination of ultrasonic attenuation in solids
Abstract
The paper outlines the design concept of special-purpose ultrasonic probes provided with digital display for direct measurement of the attenuation coefficient of ultrasound signals in dB. The devices described also include a unit for statistical processing of pertinent data. The design of such devices must consider diffraction losses, losses in the acoustic-contact layer, reflection losses, and numerical values of the errors pertaining to the evaluation of these errors.
