A semplified formula for particle frequency response in turbulent gaseous flows
Abstract
The problem of scattering particles capability to follow flow fields, in LDA measurements, can be analyzed comparing particle and flow turbulence frequency spectra. The ratio of the two energy spectra can be assumed as a measure of the correspondence between particle and flow fluctuations. Another criterion, ability to give a formula for the maximum particle frequency in turbulent flows, is derived and compared with the first one. The proposed formula could be useful in evaluating the upper frequency limit of a particle suspended in a turbulent flow, at least at first approximation.
