Special applications and new technical aspects of laser anemometry
Abstract
A review is presented of laser velocimeter systems developed to study high speed and transient flow conditions found in axial and radial turbomachinery, helicopter rotor research, and aircraft wing vortex wake studies. Special problems found in adapting laser velocimetry to these applications, and the various techniques used to solve them, are discussed. The constraints on system designs and use of laser velocimetery in these areas is stressed. Examples of velocity flow field measurements made using these systems are presented. New technical aspects of laser velocimetry systems aimed at improving and expanding velocity measurement capability are reviewed.
