Performance investigation of cryogenic heat pipes
Abstract
To obtain parametric performance data on heat pipes, seven wick structures and two working fluids were used so as to allow a comparison of the relative performance of the various heat pipes. In addition, equations for determination of properties of cryogenic fluids were obtained from bibliographies and property values computed for CH4 and CF4 as working fluids. The maximum heat transport capability of the heat pipes filled with CH4 and CF4 was measured as a function of temperature and tilt height. Experimental results were compared with predictions obtained using the simplified capillary limit theory.
