Survey of the various aspects of gas-surface interaction

Common aspects and interrelationships between the various topics on gas-surface interactions dealt with in the symposium are reviewed. The most important research and development projects on gas friction and aerothermal heating of flight bodies, on heterogeneous catalysis, and on oxidation and solubility of gases in metals are dealt with. Particular attention is paid to the comparison of methods and procedures for the analysis and preparation of gases and solid surfaces, the measurement of gas-solid surface interactions, and the theoretical description of elementary processes.
