SAW resonators and coupled resonator filters
Abstract
The behavior of SAW resonators and coupled resonator filters on ST-Quartz is examined. SAW resonance phenomena are explained in terms of two-dimensional symmetric and antisymmetric modes. The effects of energy trapping are considered and the results of transducer apodization shown. Because of the two-dimensional symmetry, SAW resonators may be coupled using transverse or inline modes. Typical SAW coupled-resonator filter responses for each type of coupling are discussed. Using two SAW two-pole devices a four-pole filter response is demonstrated.
