Application of electron beam recording in graphics
Abstract
The use of Electron Beam Recording (EBR) for such computerized graphics applications as automated cartography, business and scientific graphics, engineering and utility drawings, newspaper, book and magazine publishing, and high-quality microfiche and microfilm recording is discussed. Design of EBR systems and the various recording media employed are considered. The high-speed, high-resolution plotting available through the cartographic EBR of the U.S. Army Engineering Topographic Laboratory is described. An EBR device capable of recording high-quality line graphics such as alphanumerics, symbols or trademarks, and continuous tone or halftone imagery for use in newspaper publishing, computer output microfilm, and engineering drawings is also discussed. The high-resolution has the advantage of eliminating mechanical and repeat camera mechanisms when recording microfiche.
